UF4. ***Please Full View***

Still playing around with an older image. This time I wanted something more abstract and no spirals. I kept the gradient because as most of you know I love brown :D.

I also played around some with the texture, I didn't want the octogon shape to show through so I added another layer of texture and used mapping to distort it to create a more realistic rock texture.

*Beesknees67 work is always beautiful, but this is the most realistic texturing I've ever seen in UF. The subtle coloring, the texture, and the simple shapes combine to make a feeling of ancient rocks in a beautiful cave. Fossil invites your eyes and hands to search the whole piece. This is awesome! I know that I came to this piece late, but I'm glad that I finally stumbled across it. I've been working on making fractal fossils to add to my rocks and minerals collection, but they don't come close to the realistic look of this. Great job!

Thanks so much Kathleen....I've noted you in reference to the stone texture.

I'm an Apophysis user who also recently bought UF, because I wanted something else to learn. THIS is gthe kind of piece that tells me that UF is worth exploring. Most of the things I see with UF are the similar spiral and plastic-ish look...which aren't exactly the most artistically pleasing to my eye...you know...pretty patterns and all, but I wouldn't frame them. THIS....however, is BRILLIANT. This is a wonderful piece of artwork, in it's own right...which SHOULD be the goal of every artist, regardless of genre...but sometimes gets lost in the effort to create something "pretty".

Anyway....long story short....in an immense gallery of fractals which might make you go "ohhh" and then move on....THIS piece amazes me and makes me want to put it up on my wall. This is fine art, for ANY genre! I am now VERY excited about the possibilities of UF, and I find myself oping that you'll do some tutorials.

Thank you so very much for the thoughful, wonderful compliment....I'm happy you like the piece as it's one of my favorites and I'm honored it was chosen a DD.

It's funny, when I first downloaded the trial version of UF I was so intimidated by what I thought was this extremely complicated program I just threw up my hands and deleted it. I wasn't until I joined DA and saw some of the UF works created by some of the talented artists here that I decided to bite the bullet and purchase the program and then read every tutorial I could find.

I would never have been able to create this piece without the knowledge I've gained from taking the UF courses offered at the online Visual Arts Academy [link] . Since you have UF I highly recommend the classes. They are fun and what you learn will help you create better art. Hopefully that shows in my most recent work :D

As for writing a tutorial, I'm not opposed to it, I just wouldn't know where to begin :(. If you need help with something in UF feel free to note me and I'll be happy to help. :)

Thanks again for the comment, the :+fav:'s and the :+devwatch:.
